This exhibition is a visual narrative of Black identity, resilience, and evolution, told through the perspectives of artists whose work reflects the past, present, and future of Black culture. Each piece captures a different facet of the Black experience—from ancestral connections and traditional beauty to modern-day expressions of joy, struggle, and empowerment.

Through a blend of portraiture, abstraction, mixed media, and cultural symbolism, these works illustrate the ever-changing yet deeply rooted essence of Black artistry. The exhibition moves through different artistic interpretations of Black history, heritage, and personal storytelling, highlighting themes of family, movement, activism, intimacy, and self-expression.

As you navigate this space, you are invited to reflect on the depth and diversity of Black culture—how it has shaped and been shaped by generations, and how it continues to redefine itself in art today.

LESLIE CRUZ

Leslie Cruz, hailing from Germany, is on a mission to conduct art camps for children, driven by the desire to become the mentor she wished she had while growing up, using art as her vehicle for inspiration and connection.

WYNTRESS X'ION

Wyntress X’ion is a multidisciplinary artist whose work centers on culture, healing, and empowerment. As a Houston native, she draws inspiration from the city’s vibrant diversity and the communities that have shaped her. Her practice bridges the personal and the collective, using vivid colors, layered textures, and a variety of mediums—fabric, acrylics, oil pastels, spray paint, and collaged relics—to craft narratives rooted in love, identity, and resilience.

ALEXANDRIA HUBBARD

Alexandria is an artist that focuses on the connection, empowerment, and community of those who belong to the diaspora. She is a healer, an educator, and a mental health therapist who uses art & wellness to heal the world.

XAVIER ALVARADO

Xavier Alvarado is a self-taught mixed-media artist whose work draws inspiration from the colors and culture of his Trinidadian heritage, as well as the natural world to reinforce themes of adventure, and philosophy. His tools are acrylics, chalk, oil stick, and elements in the natural world. His artistic vision extends beyond the canvas into multi media like film.Fearlessly pushing creative boundaries.

BRYNE HENRY

Brynne Henry's work encompasses figurative drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, fiber art, and portraiture, with a focus on exploring the existence and tenderness of Black female relationships, particularly in the context of mothering Black girls. Her subject matter often revolves around Black maternal and sisterly/familial relationships, tender moments in Black female friendships, and the connections between Black women and their girlhood, as well as their hair.

Henry utilizes bright, “kool-aid” or candy colors as visual motifs that reference the Black Arts Movement, acknowledging the contributions of Black printmakers who were excluded from mainstream Black printmaking exhibitions during the Black Power/Black Arts era.

TILLANYE STEWART

Tillanye Stewart is a multidisciplinary artist based in Houston Tx, with a focus in photography and realism. Her work

explores what it means to be communal with much of her art inviting the onlooker to share in a feeling or emotion expressed.

She aims to provide an unspoken dialogue of commonality among those who can relate to the struggle and are willing to see and be seen.

KENGART

Scott Keng better known as AS_Kengart is an accomplished Visual/Surrealist Painter. The artist began his creative journey in 'Cameroon' (Central Africa). He holds his degrees in Fine-Art and has been practicing over the decades.

LINDA MORGAN SODERS

Linda Morgan Soders is a self-taught collage/mixed media artist. Her life experiences are vividly expressed in art that is unique and thought-provoking. Her work encompasses a wide array of human emotions and celebrates the indomitable resilience of the human spirit.

KURTINA WASHINGTON

Kurtina Washington, known as Kurt, is a multidisciplinary artist who explores real-life themes through fantastical lenses, blending our ordinary world with the extraordinary.
